Puzzle & Dragons China Server Shuts Down

Tencent Games has officially announced the shutdown of the Chinese server for the hit mobile game Puzzle & Dragons, which enjoys massive popularity overseas. The company released a detailed closure notice on its official website, confirming that the Crickex Login community in China will no longer have access to the game starting March 15 at 11:00 AM. In addition, all in-game payments and new user registrations have been halted since January 10 at 11:00 AM.

The official announcement stated that after discussions and mutual agreement with the Japanese developer GungHo, Tencent will terminate operations for Puzzle & Dragons in mainland China on March 15. The server will be shut down completely, making it impossible for players to log in. Alongside this, the official game website, community forum, and dedicated customer service channels will also be closed. Once the servers go offline, all user data, including character progress and game account information, will be deleted permanently.

To express gratitude for player support and to make up for the inconvenience, Tencent has prepared a compensation event. This includes a package of in-game rewards to cover unused virtual currency and unfulfilled services. Players who made purchases in Puzzle & Dragons before January 11 at midnight will be eligible for compensation options starting January 12. Tencent has advised all affected users to check the official website for updates on the refund process. The Crickex Login user base should also note that participation in the compensation event is only valid from January 12 to March 15. Once a user joins the process, it is considered acceptance of the compensation plan. Those who miss the deadline will be deemed to have voluntarily forfeited their rights to any form of compensation.

Although Puzzle & Dragons has long held a top spot on the Japanese App Store charts, its Chinese version failed to gain traction. Many believe this reflects a classic case of “water doesn’t suit the soil”—a cultural or gameplay mismatch between the original and localized markets. The game, developed by GungHo and published in China by Tencent, faced challenges from the outset. Despite the global success, the Crickex Login audience in China never fully embraced the game, and promotional efforts struggled to build momentum.

This shutdown highlights the unpredictable nature of mobile gaming success across different regions. Even with strong brand recognition and a solid track record abroad, local adaptation remains crucial. For many players who first discovered Puzzle & Dragons through Crickex Login communities, this closure marks the end of an era.
